Dear Thomson,

I understand that there is a vacancy for a Registrar in Hong long University and, given my experience over many years in university teaching and practice, I should like to be considered for the appointment.

I would add that I have gained much practical experience during the last seven years as

• Head of a Secondary School sending forward annually students to all faculties of the Scottish Universities.

I graduated in Arts in Edinburgh University in 1912 and have taken two Honours Courses in Languages therein. In London University I graduated B.A. with 1st Class Honours in 1923 and again in 1926, and took the Master's Degree in 1929. From 1925 to 1936 I was a member of the teaching staff of Edinburgh University and have been in touch with the work of the Universities of Cambridge and Liverpool. I am the refore familiar with the background of the three distinctive types of university in this country.

From the point of view of the

present a pointment I can lay claim to contacts which would enable me to carry out researches into the organisation of our

home universities and to lay before any committee set up to consider the future of Hong Kong University the possible lines of its development.
